Port of Brisbane hits record 1.62m TEU in FY2025, trade up 7.8% to 34.9m tonnes
The Port of Brisbane recorded another strong year of growth in FY24, handling 1.61 million TEU and total trade volumes of 32.34 million tonnes, up from 1.56 million TEU in FY23.
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) CEO Neil Stephens said the Port continues to play a vital role in Queensland’s economy:
“A safe and efficient Port of Brisbane powers the state economy, connects communities and keeps Queensland moving. It was another record year for containers, with 1.62 million TEU handled, including 693,000 TEU of full imports and 395,000 TEU of full exports. Container imports remained strong, driven by Southeast Queensland’s population growth and demand for building materials and household goods.”
Bulk grain exports surged during the year, rising 259% year-on-year to almost 2 million tonnes, led by wheat, sorghum and chickpeas. Nearly 1 million tonnes of chickpeas (bulk and containerised) were exported following India’s temporary suspension of chickpea tariffs in 2024.
Refrigerated meat exports also reached a new high, climbing 12.9% to 77,750 TEU, with over half shipped to North Asian markets.
Stephens highlighted ongoing investment in port infrastructure, noting that seven new property developments across 26 hectares are being delivered in FY25 for both new and existing customers.
“This investment from global and local logistics players is a clear vote of confidence in the Port’s efficiency and its role in driving the region’s future economic growth,” he said.
